Y-DNA Test - Surnames are passed down from fathers to sons just as the Y-chromosome is passed from father to son, therefore the Y-DNA test is for males only. The various marker tests available for males include Y-DNA12, Y-DNA25, Y-DNA37, and the highest Y-DNA67 marker test. The higher the number of markers, the greater accuracy in determining the probabilities associated with the time to a Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA).
